We have been delighted by the response to our second Call Out for writers, we received even more scripts than before (over 60!) and there were many of a very high standard. Our brief called for plays set anywhere in the UK and so we were somewhat surprised and disappointed to receive only a handful of scripts set in other British countries besides England; consequently, choosing the plays for quality above anything else, we will be presenting four plays set in England. We were very pleased to receive entries from people we have worked with before – several of which were so good they made the final cut.
After a few days of reading, rereading and discussing every single piece, particularly in relation to our vision of the night as a whole, we have now decided on our four final plays. They are:
A Little While Longer by Melanie Hunter
Chelsea & Henriette by Wendy Thomson
Milk by Judy Upton
The Seaside by Camilla Whitehill
We were very sad to turn down so many of those submitted there was a lot of talent. However, we are thrilled with our choices and believe that they will create the best production possible.
We have issued a Casting Call, which can be found here: bit.ly/19sNH6Z
We are also on the look out for an Assistant Producer, the job description can be found here: bit.ly/16N24iq
We are also extremely pleased to announce that the venue of the show will be the Hen & Chickens Theatre. This is a wonderfully professional fringe space, located across the road from Highbury & Islington tube station (one stop from Kings Cross). The production will run from the 17th – 21st September.
We’ll post again soon with more details about the night and how to book!
