Post-Show Thoughts on City Slices & Country Crumbs

Last month’s City Slices & Country Crumbs showcased four new 15-minute plays, chosen from over 60 submissions.  Performed at the Hen & Chickens theatre, it followed the success of City Shorts, performed at the Rosemary Branch theatre in May 2011.  We also broadened our horizons from plays set in London (City Shorts) to plays set in England.

This was our second production in a conventional theatre setting, and we were delighted with our overall production!  We felt that our work had definitely evolved and progressed from City Shorts, not least since we had built a framework for our process that we were happy with, working on that first show.  We were very pleased to produce the show at a theatre as long-established and professional as the Hen & Chickens, in such a fantastic location.

The overall tone of the production differed slightly from City Shorts, in that two out of the four plays were unabashed comedies.  It was wonderful welcoming yet more people into the London Grey & Green family, and we can safely say the cast and crew, perhaps because of the emphasis on the comic (even the two shorts which weren’t straightforward comedy had many funny moments) had a lot of laughs!  We had a much smaller cast this time (8 instead of 13) which did allow everyone to get to know each other that little bit more.  We also welcomed a new assistant producer, Alysha Laviniere, to the production team, who was as brilliantly organised as she was a pleasure to work with.

Here are some views from the press:

One Stop Arts: ★★★
‘These plays are full of an affection for England that makes for a warm tonic on a cold night’

Everything Theatre: ★★★
‘A thoroughly enjoyable way to spend a night with friends and be introduced to some emerging young playwrights.’

The show also received ★★★ from The Public Reviews and WhatsPeenSeen.
