Call out for writers!

After our successful run at the Rosemary Branch theatre earlier this year, we are putting on another evening of short play this autumn! City Shorts received 4*s from The Public Reviews and Female Arts and was deemed “an evening of challenging and passionate new writing” by A Younger Theatre.  We loved exploring London through our City Shorts pieces, but this time we are expanding our horizons to include plays set anywhere in the UK.

Our guidelines are simple; there are just three golden rules for your submissions:

1.     Pieces must be set in and/or have a specific connection to a UK location (eg. London).
2.     They must have at least 50% female characters.
3.     They must be no longer than 15 minutes.

Apart from this, the artistic decisions are completely up to you! The piece could be set at any time in history or, indeed, the future. Whether it’s naturalistic, surreal, absurd, historical, fantastical, we want to read it.  We are also very open to receiving submissions containing live music, song or dance.

The number of characters is flexible, whether you want to write a monologue or something with lots of characters performed by a few. However, realistically we would be looking at no more than 4 actors per piece.

We would encourage you to keep set and technical direction to a minimum, since pieces must be feasible for performance on a limited budget. We also have to strike the set every night, so keep that in mind.

How To Enter

The deadline for submissions is Monday 12th August at 5pm.
– Scripts must be submitted in Word or PDF format. Scripts must be emailed to info@greyandgreentheatre.co.uk
– You are welcome to submit more than one script.

Why Enter?

– If your piece is selected, it is guaranteed to be performed at a London fringe theatre this autumn.
– It’s a chance to get involved with an ambitious and exciting new theatre company, an excellent opportunity to network with the potential of future collaborations. We are particularly interested in new writing and will support you in all ways that we can, from marketing and promotion to script development.

Entry is entirely free. This is an unpaid opportunity.

We look forward to hearing from you, best of luck!
